As of Dragonfly 2025.1, a software-defined limit is in place:

A maximum of 15 volumes and/or meshes can be rendered simultaneously in the 3D view.

This limit is independent of GPU texture unit constraints and is intended to ensure stable performance across supported hardware.

For ROIs and Multi-ROIs, an additional limitation applies:

A maximum of two ROIs or Multi-ROIs with different dimensions (X, Y, Z) can be displayed in the 3D view at the same time.
If three or more ROIs/Multi-ROIs with different sizes are set to visible, only the first two that were enabled for 3D visibility will be shown.
